Contact Us- Legal Inquiries

If you have a legal problem, there are two different ways to contact us- by email or regular mail.

EMAIL: If you have access to email, please send your inquiry to legalservices@lavenderlegal.org. This is the quickest way for us to review your inquiry. Please provide the following in your email:

  • Your legal name and all other names you go by in the community, your pronouns, address in Iowa (if you do not have an address, please describe your situation) and telephone number (if you have one).

  • Please be brief when describing your legal issue and limit your email to no more than two paragraphs.

  • Use an email that others do not have access to. For example, avoid employer or school email programs.

REGULAR MAIL: If you do not have access to email, write to us at Lavender Legal Center, P.O. Box 31, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406.

  • Please limit your document to one single sided, double spaced, letter sized sheet. If handwritten, please ensure legibility. We will ask for more information if we need it.

  • Do not send original documents! Original documents provided with complaints are shredded after the review process. We cannot return original documents that accompany intake mail.

Important Note: Lavender Legal Center can only give legal advice to those who have become its clients. Unless you have signed a retainer agreement with us, you must seek legal advice elsewhere.

We deem your communication(s) seeking legal assistance or representation to be privileged and confidential. However, your communication with us requesting assistance does not create an agreement for us to provide you legal advice or representation. We cannot promise you that the information you provide will lead to any specific action on the part of Lavender Legal Center, including contacting you further in response to your communication. If you have tried to reach us, it is likely that we received your communication. However, unless we have a specific reason to respond, you might not hear from us.

Our response, including no response, is not an indication of the merits of your claim. We do not have the staff necessary to respond to all communications that we receive and we have identified legal priorities that drive our work. Please visit our "Services" page for a list of common cases that we accept.
